PRIORITIES
Dementia
Nationally, dementia is a priority for the NHS and social care services. The UK government has launched several initiatives to improve dementia care, including the Dementia Strategy and the Dementia Discovery Fund, which invests in research for better treatments and care methods.
Diagnosis and Support
Early diagnosis is crucial. The NHS aims to increase diagnosis rates so that people can access support and treatment sooner. Memory clinics and dementia advisors are available across the country to help with this.
Research and Innovation
The UK is a leader in dementia research. Organisations like Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society fund research to find new treatments and ultimately a cure.
Community and Support
There are numerous support groups and charities, such as Dementia UK and Age UK, that provide resources, advice, and support for people living with dementia and their carers. Our new weekly group: The Thursday Club is designed to improve support locally in Wallington. Go to our events page for more information.
Awareness and Training
Efforts are being made to increase public awareness and understanding of dementia. Training programs for healthcare professionals and carers are also being expanded to improve the quality of care.
Let’s work together to support those with dementia in our community and across the UK.
