Focus on Dementia
Helping Our Community with Dementia
Dementia is a significant issue that affects many people across the UK. It’s a condition that impacts memory, thinking, and the ability to perform everyday activities. In the UK, around 900,000 people are living with dementia, and this number is expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025. Dementia not only affects individuals but also their families and carers, making it a crucial area for community support and healthcare services.
Join Us for a Dementia Event
We’re hosting a special event to talk about dementia. It’s for people with dementia and their carers. The event will be on Thursday, 27th March 2025, from 10:30 am to 1 pm at St Paul's Church, Roundshaw, SM6 9HG. There will be short talks from experts and to get your feedback on what you'd like to see. You’ll also get a free lunch and refreshments, and there will be stalls with information about dementia support.
Our Plan for Better Care
Wallington Integrated Neighbourhood Team and Sutton Primary Care Networks are working with London Borough of Sutton and local Mental Health Services to provide NHS services that are easy to access and helpful. We want to make sure everyone gets the care they need.
Dementia in the UK
Nationally, dementia is a priority for the NHS and social care services. The UK government has launched several initiatives to improve dementia care, including the Dementia Strategy and the Dementia Discovery Fund, which invests in research for better treatments and care methods.
Diagnosis and Support.Early diagnosis is crucial. The NHS aims to increase diagnosis rates so that people can access support and treatment sooner. Memory clinics and dementia advisors are available across the country to help with this.
Research and Innovation. The UK is a leader in dementia research. Organisations like Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society fund research to find new treatments and ultimately a cure.
Community SupportThere are numerous support groups and charities, such as Dementia UK and Age UK, that provide resources, advice, and support for people living with dementia and their carers.
Awareness and Training Efforts are being made to increase public awareness and understanding of dementia. Training programs for healthcare professionals and carers are also being expanded to improve the quality of care.
Let’s work together to support those with dementia in our community and across the UK.

Man Space
Did you know that exercising is as good if not better than giving antidepressants to help depression? Recent studies show that activities such as walking, jogging, and strength training can significantly improve mood and overall mental health—especially in young adults. In light of four tragic suicides of young adults in the Roundshaw area, we at Integrated Neighbourhood Teams are launching a new service focused on supporting mental health through exercise and open conversation. By offering regular group walks, simple workouts, and a safe space to talk, we hope to foster a sense of community and belonging for those who might be struggling.
In collaboration with Wallington INT, Wallington Community Wellbeing Charity, St Paul's Church and the Proper Blokes Club, starting Monday 20th January at 6.30pm, we invite you to join us at St Paul’s Church (Roundshaw, SM6 9HG) for our weekly meet-up. The Church will be open from 6pm. Here, you’ll find like-minded individuals, free refreshments, and the chance to speak openly about any challenges you may be facing. Our hope is that by combining the proven benefits of physical activity with a friendly, supportive environment, we can help prevent further tragedies in our community. Whether you’re feeling low, looking to make friends, or simply want to stay active, this initiative is for you. Together, we can make a difference—one step at a time.

Healthy You!
Join us for the "Healthy You" event, started on Thursday, 25th January 2024; from September 26th, we will be located at 10.30-12.30 pm at St Paul's Church, Roundshaw.
